Argo Project Argo will provide significant benefits for seasonal forecasting, climate prediction and operational oceanography. In 1999 it was agreed that Project Argo is a key international programme and that the UK will contribute to, to at least a GNP level of contribution at full deployment, and that the Met Office takes responsibility for the management and co-ordination of the UK contribution to Project Argo. Funding for the UK contribution to Argo is being provided by DEFRA and MoD, together with a substantial in-kind contribution (e.g. float deployment from research vessels, data archiving) from NERC.
Eumetsat Fantastic animated playback of actual satelite images which are taken routinely by EUMETSAT’s Meteosat satellites from the geostationary orbit about 36000 km above the equator. Currently EUMETSAT is operating Meteosat satellites at positions of 0° longitude and at 63°E. The images are taken on a half-hourly basis and after processing at a control centre in Darmstadt, they are re-disseminated via the satellites to the user community (all images copyright 2003 EUMETSAT )
Met Office The Met Office initiates warnings and prepares routine forecasts for dissemination on behalf of the MCA. In the UK, the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) is responsible for the provision of Maritime Safety Information (MSI) to ships at sea, which includes the broadcast of warnings and forecasts.
